Ron Burkhardt "EarthScapes and Memory Links" April 20th– May 18th 2013
On April 20, during the DADA Art Walk, LuminArté will welcome renowned artist Ron Burkhardt for a solo exhibit of both of his award winning, original genres: Notism and Earth Art. Ron’s raw, anti-tech work preserves the primal spirituality of our shared histories as it chronicles a society whose multi-tasking demands intrude on every facet of life. Burkhardt has been involved in over fifty exhibitions in the past decade and has won over 200 creative awards in his career, including a Medici medal from the Biennale Internazionale Dell’Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy, Art in America’s “PaperWorks” in Huntington, NY, and the American Art Awards in Los Angeles
Born in the serene, small-town landscape of the American Midwest, and bred in the urban cauldron of New York City, Ron Burkhardt’s art career has been marked by unconventional breakthroughs. As a major creative force running his own New York City ad agency in the 90’s, Burkhardt gained honors and fame. But when 9/11 hit, it altered his world-view forever. Suddenly the witty ads and Super Bowl commercials he was known for seemed frivolous; and he decided to become more engage in his art pursuits.Featured in Who's Who in American Art, Ron has been interviewed on NBC, CBS, CNN, Aspen-PBS, and WVVH and Plum TV in the Hamptons. His paintings are held in numerous museums, corporate and university collections in the US, South America and Europe, have been acquired by scores of distinguished collectors, and sold at Sotheby’s and Phillips de Pury auctions in New York.
Notism fuses frantic scrawls with organic gesture; a free-spirited conglomeration of obsessive design, linear rhythms and high-voltage colors moving in all directions. Capturing the innate power of hieroglyphics, his work is a counterpoint to our multi-tasking society. Multi-faceted, richly complex surfaces are grounded by textural substrates that bring layers of nostalgia to life. Ron's relentless notes explode with energy on canvas, honoring the beauty found amid chaos. Abstract symbols collide in raw layers of paint and passion, startling in their power to transform language into emotion.
Ron Burkhardt’s latest artistic breakthrough takes us back to our organic foundations. Rooted in nature's gritty reality, Earth Art reveals intriguing depths and layers of color substrates forged from earth's crust. Heralding the complexity and organic power of our planet, these canvases fuse paint, rain and pond water, indigenous soil, snow and intense sun over a period of weeks to create otherworldly shapes, dimensions and color forms. When this natural process concludes, elements of grass, sky, lakes, mountains and deserts emerge from the painted surface, with raw earth fused into canvas, forming a permanent record of earth's majestic riches. Each is signed on the back, where he also identifies the date and region where the art was created.
